I painted these after a long absence from the studio and wanted to do something that was fun and playful, to ease back into watercolour again. I was also using a very heavy watercolour paper, and enjoyed not having to stretch the paper. I did the underpainting first. Once that was dry, I painted another layer of transparent watercolour. I also used a bit of white gouache here and there. This recently sold at a gallery.
German born, but Canadian by nationality, Karin Zeller has been a resident of Melbourne, Australia since 1993. She is self taught artist, but has attended many courses , workshops and classes over the years. Starting out in 1990, creating custom pencil portraits, she honed her skills in realistic portraiture. However, Karin always had a love of colour, and became interested in watercolour. Not long after, and still a relative beginner, she was asked to teach a beginners watercolour class with the local Art Society, where she was a member.
